Moms in Motion
One of the biggest complaints I get from moms is that "it is so hard to make mom friends"! As an introvert, I find it often hard to make friends with or without kids, but if you get out there in your community you will have an easier time making friends quickly.
I always wanted a friendship with another woman that was like those I read of in books — living next door, dropping over for coffee every morning, exercising together with the dogs or kids…
Maybe those relationships happened like that last century, but I haven't found it to be the case very often in recent times. You have to make an effort to make plans. Play dates, park days, going to storytimes at the library — going to places where other moms gather can sometimes be hard to find.
And when we don't have those connections it is easy to get depressed and spiral further and further into loneliness.
Local Mommy Life was started to make it easier for moms to find each other and to connect. Some of my best friends were found at the library and in playgroups. Yes, I had to get up and get everyone dressed and go out, but it was worth it.
When there wasn't a playgroup for moms, I started one. All it took was a couple of conversations with the moms of other kids and we were up and going. Some groups were more organized than others, some were literally "I am going to the park — who will meet me there?"
These groups gave me someone besides a toddler or my husband to talk to, and something to look forward to each week. Other moms became friends, a close tribe, and helped build a support system that could be relied upon. Many moms live away from family, and this Local Mommy Life network becomes a lifeline.
If there is not a Local Mommy Life resource near you, you could start one, or just start a playgroup.
Right now we have resources local to these great places!
Restaurants, parks, storytimes, camps, and our most active mom community.
